Lose Weight with myWW

Do you want to lose weight? I know something that works. WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers, has been around since the sixties and it’s at its best. Successful weight loss has always been the focus of Weight Watchers and quite frankly myWW is a sustainable program that works if you work it. Trust me, simply signing up isn’t enough. You have to follow the program and when you do, magic happens. WW is regularly evolving and rebranding while basing the program on research. I will never forget losing 5 pounds the first week I joined.

Workshops or Virtual?

I have always been a huge fan of the in-person meetings, now rebranded as Workshops. Talk about accountability. Plus, it’s a fun way to celebrate successes, milestones, and you make friends with other members. If you like rewards there is nothing like receiving a charm for your keyring (see photo above – that’s 5 lbs) the day you reach a goal. The Leaders, now called Coaches, have been successful using the program and bring a down to earth perspective each week. With COVID-19 craziness I’ve been 100% digital and I’m really enjoying it. I might return to the Workshops one day but for now, I’m finding success.

Choose a Color

As for the actual program, WW has three options: Blue, Purple, and Green. Each plan is a personal decision depending upon how you prefer to spend your points (eggs? potatoes? bread? veggies?). This is something to delve into as a member to figure out what works best for you. Formerly, I was on Blue but this time opted for Green. So far I’m down over eight pounds!

Here’s more about the three membership options:

  1. Digital. This option offers access to the website and app with a barcode scanner, database of restaurants and recipes, rewards program, expert techniques, live coaching, meditations, and audio workouts, all in one app. My favorite feature is Connect, WW’s social media. The support, tips, and success photos are worth every dime. The great news is now virtual members receive charms in the mail. They take about a week to arrive.
  2. Workshops + Digital. Since COVID-19 arrived on the scene many in-person workshops were paused. But the good news is WW had already tapped technology which made for an easy transition from Workshops to virtual. Today, you can connect with a WW Coach and other members in a 30-minute Zoom session or in-person workshops as they reopen.
  3. Personal Coaching + Digital. I’ve never tried this option but it sounds pretty cool. Subscribers receive a customized plan and 1:1 support from a WW Coach. Plus, access to the Digital tools mentioned above.

Starting Over

After a long year of working at home, I’m ready to get back to my goal weight and am committing to daily tracking combined with amped up exercise. I have quite the journey ahead of me, but I’m ready. Unfortunately, wishful thinking isn’t an ingredient to weight loss success. Therefore, I have a plan. Below are some of the tactics I’m using to ensure my success.

Meal Planning

Planning ahead is probably the best gift you can give yourself. If the house isn’t filled with whole foods like fruit, vegetables, and proteins it’s challenging to be successful. That’s when poor choices meander in or a trip through the fast-food drive-through happens. When my family and I go out to eat I will look at the menu beforehand to figure out the best option. Doing this has made me successful in the past. When I don’t plan, I fail.

Weighing and Measuring Food

If there is one thing that’s a fact, it’s that bowl can be bottomless. Whether you are snacking on granola or chips or pasta it’s difficult to gauge a serving without measuring or weighing it. Of course, if I was refilling blueberries or cottage cheese I probably would feel satisfied and not feel the need to refill (tip: eat filling foods). Oftentimes when I realize how tiny the portion is I decide to opt-out and skip the food altogether. I’m committing to sticking with portion sizes and weighing food with a scale when necessary. I know from experience it will help me lose weight.

Track Smart Points

This is the golden ticket. Even if you go over your point allotment eating s’mores brownies – track, track, track. Paying attention to what choices you are making and how they align with the program. Don’t look at going over points as being a failure. It’s a learning opportunity.
